Diaspora Lecture at Bristol University

Our Man Mahmoud Matan Represented ACDA at a Diaspora Lecture at Bristol University

Our colleague, Mahmoud Matan, proudly represented the Advocacy & Capacity Development Association (ACDA) at a recent diaspora-focused lecture hosted by the University of Bristol.

The event was organised by the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship at the University, and featured Isaja Karadakovska, a visiting professor from Canada, who delivered insightful reflections on diaspora dynamics, identity, and transnational engagement.

The lecture brought together academics, community leaders, and diaspora representatives to explore key issues affecting Somali and wider migrant communities in the UK and globally. Discussions focused on the evolving role of diaspora communities in shaping policy, contributing to development, and strengthening international connections.

Mahmoud’s participation reflects ACDA’s continued commitment to ensuring that community voices are represented in academic and policy spaces. His presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between grassroots organisations and higher education institutions—bridging lived experience with research and fostering meaningful dialogue.

ACDA commends Mahmoud for representing the organisation with professionalism, insight, and dedication to community development.
