About Us

Advocacy & Capacity Development Association

ACDA was established in 2023 and formally registered as a non-profit making and non-political, relief and development organisation with the object of making a difference in the development of communities in the UK.

Key Objectives of ACDA

Advice, Information and Guidance

Our  Advice ,Information, Guidance and Referral service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.  We provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.  ACDA values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination.

Capacity Building & Development Support

Training and Business Surgeries: ACDA aims to improve the quality of services within the Somali and African communities by providing targeted capacity-building programs. This includes offering training and business development support to individuals and organizations to ensure sustainable growth and effective community service.

Research and Community Representation

Accurate Representation: ACDA works to provide an authentic, detailed portrayal of the Somali community's needs, aspirations, and achievements. This is achieved through the publication of research reports and community-focused studies, which help bridge the gap between community experiences and wider societal perceptions.

Policy Advocacy & Influence

Campaigns and Policy Work: ACDA actively engages in advocacy efforts to ensure that the interests and concerns of Somali and African communities are effectively represented in national and local policy discussions. This includes direct lobbying and campaigning to influence policy changes that benefit these communities.

Leadership Development

Training Future Leaders: Recognizing the need for strong representation at decision-making levels, ACDA provides leadership training programs. This initiative seeks to empower individuals from Somali and African backgrounds to take on leadership roles in public and private sectors, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.

The organisation is led by experienced professionals with over 30 years of combined experience in the voluntary, statutory, and private sectors, particularly in Wales and England.
